Dera Baba Nanak land post, which is to be the main exit and entry point for pilgrims travelling to Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan, has been designated as an official immigration checkpoint as per a notification issued by the Home Ministry yesterday (11 February 2019), reports The Tribune.

The notification states that any person possessing valid travel documents can use the checkpoint to enter or exit the Gurdaspur district.

“In pursuance of sub-rule (b) of rule 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, the Central Government hereby designates Dera Baba Nanak Land Check Post of District Gurdaspur, Punjab State as an authorised Immigration Check Post for entry into/exit from India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers,” reads the notification.

This is the latest development in setting up the Kartarpur corridor, which is a proposed route connecting Dera Baba Nanak Sahib in India with Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, which is where the founder of the Sikh faith Guru Nanak passed away. The foundation stones of the corridor were laid on the Indian and Pakistani sides on 26 and 28 November 2019 respectively.
