Kartarpur Corridor To Open For Sikh Pilgrims Three Days Ahead Of Guru Nanak’s 550th Birth Anniversary

Pakistan on Monday (16 September) announced that it would open the Kartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims hailing from India on 9 November, which would be three days ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, reports Indian Express.
Sharing the progress on the work underway at Kartarpur Corridor, project director Atif Majid briefed the media persons that 86 per cent of the work had been completed and the rest will be completed by next month.
Delving into the details about facilities set up at the corridor, Majid shared that 76 immigration counters have been set up by Pakistan to cater to 5,000 Sikh pilgrims a day from India, which could be increased further as it is anticipated by the Pakistani government that the number of pilgrims visiting the holy gurdwara could surge to 10,000 a day.
The corridor, once completed, would facilitate the movement of Indian pilgrims to Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur from Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur, Punjab (India) on a visa-free basis. The pilgrims will only be required to obtain a permit to visit the gurudwara across the border.
