The Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal on Monday (5 August) hailed the Home Minister Amit Shah's move to amend the Article 370 of the constitution and grant his constituency the status of a Union Territory, reports The Hindu.

Claiming that the move would usher in development and strengthen the border security, Tsering asserted that both the decisions were in the interest of the country and will help in the growth of the Jammu and Ladakh regions.

"Political parties in Kashmir have always discriminated Ladakh as a part of their state, be it in the area of development, funding, and employment. Kashmir has always treated Ladakh as a step-mother “, said Namgyal.

He also emphasised that the people of Ladakh had been demanding an Union Territory status for the region since 1948 as they were heavily discriminated against by 'Kashmir-centric leaders'.

Taking a jibe at the protests led by People's Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC), he said that those should be ignored as they consider the state their 'family business'.
