Delivering on its poll promise, the Narendra Modi government has notified the extension of the PM-KISAN scheme to all 14.5 crore farmers, regardless of the size of their landholding on 8 June (Saturday), reports Money Control.

The newly sworn-in NDA government, during its first meeting on 31 May, decided to expand the scope of the scheme and provide every farmer with the benefit of Rs 6,000 per year.

The union agriculture ministry has written to all state governments asking to identify the beneficiaries under the existing land ownership scheme and transfer the benefit after the family details are uploaded on the PM-KISAN portal. The centre wants to expedite 100 per cent enlistment of eligible beneficiaries as per the revised scheme.

Under the revised scheme, two crore additional farmers will be covered with an estimated expenditure of Rs 87,217.50 crore in 2019-20 fiscal.

So far, the government has enrolled 3.66 crore beneficiaries. Of these, 3.03 crore have been paid the first instalment of Rs 2,000 and two crore have got the second instalment as well.
