Kerala: Mother Identifies Daughter and Son-In-Law Among IS Cadres Who Surrendered In Afghanistan

Bindu Sampath has managed to identify her daughter Nimisha, who after converting to Islam changed her name to Fathima, based on photographs provided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), reports Times Of India.

Nimisha alias Fathima went missing in 2016 along with her Husband Bexen alias Easa who were believed to have gone to Afghanistan and from there to Syria for joining the ISIS terror group.

Last week hundreds of IS cadres along with their families surrendered to security forces in Afghanistan and 10 among them are reportedly Indians, mostly Keralites.

Bindu was able to spot her son-in-law Bexen and her granddaughter in Photographs shown to her by NIA and is certain that the woman wearing a blue burqa and carrying a kid in one of them is her daughter.

Nimisha was a BDS student in Kasaragod and had married Bexen, an MBA graduate, before converting to Islam. On their way to Syria, Nimisha was seven months' pregnant.

Nimisha’s mother Bindu said, "Nimisha has been in touch with me over messages till 26 November last year. She had sent me snaps of my granddaughter, which helped me identify her in the photographs. I could also identify Bexen, but just to make sure I verified it with his mother and she too agreed with me."

Gracy who is Bexen’s mother told TOI over phone from Palakkad, “I could identify Bexen from his hands, nose and sitting style.”

Bindu further added, “I know it is not going to be a happy ending to my trauma anytime soon but all I want is their safe return to India. Let the law take its time, I can at least be assured that my daughter and family are in safe hands.”
