Kerala: Orange Alert In 5 Districts As Cyclone Maha Intensifies And Brings Heavy Rains In State

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for five districts of Kerala following intense rains in the state due to formation of Cyclone Maha in the Arabian Sea, reports LiveMint.
The five districts are Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, where normal life has been disturbed.
The government has cautioned tourists against travelling to beaches and have opened a control room. So far, no major casualty has been reported in the state.
As per the reports heavy rains caused a minor landslide near a railway line in Parassala, while in Ernakulam’s Fort Kochi, ten fishing boats were destroyed in the high tide.
The cyclone which originated in the southern part of Arabian sea will likely not make a landfall in Kerala, however will cause torrential rains along the state's coastal regions along with high speed winds in the region.
Authorities evacuated 140 families from Edavanakkad fishing village in Ernakulam district on Thursday (31 October).
