In a boost to gamers in Kerala, gaming and AR/VR is all set to grow at a rapid pace in the state thanks to a partnership between the state government’s nodal agency for technical entrepreneurship, Kerala Startup Mission, and Unity Technologies, reports India Today.
The state is set to receive its first Centre of Excellence for AR/VR gaming soon, which in turn, would also help the startup culture boom in the virtual reality and gaming sectors.
Unity, through the new centre of excellence, will extend support to startups and developing products, services and games on multiple platforms such as PCs and mobiles and various other VR/AR equipment.
This is expected to lead to more opportunities being created for those in the state and other states who are looking to launch startups in the gaming and virtual reality industries. The AR/VR market is expected to grow at a rapid pace in the next six years and is set to witness a considerable boom globally, said AM Sivasankar, Secretary, Department of IT and Electronics.
"This Centre of Excellence is a step towards creating an ecosystem for new businesses to grow and cater to the global demand," said Sivasankar.
"Unity is at the centre of the AR/VR ecosystem, powering 60 per cent of all content and we see this industry growing significantly over the next few years," said Hubert Larenaudie, Vice-President - Asia Pacific, Unity Technologies.
