Kerala Syro-Malabar Church Accused of Creating Racial Divide Among State’s Migrants And UK Natives

Kerala’s migrant population in United Kingdom belonging to the Christian community has accused the Syro-Malabar church of creating animosity and divide between them and the native British population in UK, The Times Of India has reported.
The migrants termed the activities of the Syro-Malabar church as ‘divisive’ which could trigger racist sentiments among the natives. The parallel system run by the Syro-Malabar church sidelining the native Latin Catholic church has reportedly led to a divide between natives and Keralites.
“Interaction with the native community during church session helped migrants build good reputation with the natives and put an end to racial attacks. But forming a separate 'Syro Malabar Malayalee' tribe is equal to bringing back the past when racial attacks towards Keralites happened,” a migrant told Times Of India.
Unlike Syro-Malabar priests other prominent migrant communities such as Polish or Philippines reportedly share churches with the native population.
Indian Migrants allege that acquiring native Latin Catholic church and organising mass exclusively for the Kerala migrants is financially motivated and hinders the naturalisation of their children.
