Kolkata Metro: Trials Begin On Long Pending East-West Underground Metro Project

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) successfully conducted trials of its underground metro services on Friday (31 May), the Times of India reports. The trials were conducted by the city’s metro authority for the first time in 25 years.
The aim of the trial was to check the design defects in the tunnel as well as the alignment between train doors and the platform. The six-coach train is slated to operate between the Phoolbagan and Sealdah on the East-West Metro corridor.
The tests began with metro officials boarding the trains and proceeding from inside the tunnel to Sealdah station. The train has to switch tracks at a crossover point and return to Phoolbagan passing through an elevated stretch leading to the stadium station covering a total distance of three kilometres.
