The Gulf nation of Kuwait has resolved to impose a 'total curfew' across the nation for a span of 20 days starting 10 May as the nation's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have touched 7,208, registering a surge of 641 new cases on Friday (8 May) itself, reports Arab News.

As per the nation's Information Ministry, the imposition of total curfew is aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic which has gathered further pace in the recent past.

The imposition of total curfew comes even as earlier on 20 April Kuwait had extended nationwide curfew to 16 hours a day, starting at 4 pm in the afternoon, and ending at 8 am the next day. It had also suspended the work of the public sector, which included the functioning of Government's ministries till 31 May.

So far, as many as 47 deaths have been recorded in Kuwait on account of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Kuwait is home to close to a million Indian expatriate workers. They make the largest expatriate community in all of Kuwait and mostly hail from the States of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
