As compared to the last two years, the crime rate in Bengaluru has reduced significantly while the number of detentions have risen. The credit is being attributed to officers who head the eight police divisions.

Special operations against criminal activities, illegal sale of marijuana, peddling drugs, rowdies etc have been taken up by police. For the first time, the police have taken the initiative of charging drug peddlers under the Goondas Act.

Compared to 2016, when the city witnessed 228 murders, this time, it has come down to 202. As many as 194 of these are detentions. Rape cases are 98 this year, as compared to last year’s 131.

T Suneel Kumar, Bengaluru City Commissioner of Police, has been quoted by Deccan Herald as saying, “We take chain-snatching cases very seriously, as many women have an emotional bond with their mangalsutras. So, for instance, with extensive planning, we arrested the notorious Irani gang, and other interstate gangs as well. Our prime focus is on public safety, and to check rowdy elements in the city.”

He holds weekly review meetings with the deputy commissioners of all divisions. The assessment made at the end of the meetings have helped them nab criminals and cut down on the crime rate in the city.
