Lebanon: Indian Peacekeeper Honoured Posthumously For Making The Supreme Sacrifice On The Line Of Duty

Sergent Ramesh Singh deployed with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has been honoured posthumously for making the supreme sacrifice while on the line of duty, PTI has reported.
“UNIFIL paid the ultimate tribute to Sergeant Ramesh Singh of India who recently lost his life while Serving for peace in Lebanon,” the mission tweeted.
Singh had arrived in Lebanon on 4 May, 2019 to serve in the peacekeeping operations. He has been awarded with the UN Medal posthumously for his dedicated service for the peace and stability in south Lebanon.
A total of 168 Indian soldiers have laid down their lives under the UN flag, while garnering acclaim for going beyond the call of duty for extending critical humanitarian assistance.
India is the fourth largest contributor of uniformed personnel to the UN peacekeeping operations with the troops serving in Abyei, Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Lebanon, the Middle East, South Sudan and the Western Sahara.
