Bengaluru Airport (Official Website)
Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru gears up to become the first ever airport in India to have LED lighting in the runway, making it the exclusive one in the country. Currently, Bengaluru airport is the third busiest in India, with a large number of domestic and international passengers commuting to and fro.
In a press release by the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), the body informed that the lighting would lower the maintenance cost and efforts. On Wednesday, September 12, BIAL said that this aims at making sure that there are higher levels of safety and carrying out efficient operations.
The second runway at the airport will witness the change. The runway experiences up to 55 air traffic movements per hour. Hence, efficiency in operations and safety is a priority and shall remain paramount, The Hindu reported.
The press release was written by Tom Shimmin, Chief Project Officer of BIAL.
The second runway will have an advanced CAT-III (B) instrument landing system that can accommodate different types of aircraft, including Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8, and will be operational from October 2019.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
