A left-wing group in Kolkata’s Esplanade launched a protest against the Donald Trump administration over the death of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of a Minnesota police officer.
As per a Press Trust of India report, the leftist group identified as Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communists) burnt an effigy of the US President and also chanted slogans against his administration.
The protesters were reportedly demanding immediate action by the Trump administration against alleged racial atrocities in the country. The protest happened at Esplanade in the heart of Kolkata.
Incidentally it is not the first time people in India decided to stage a protest against incidents happening in the United States.
A group of people in Mumbai had participated in a march following the Parkland shooting in Florida. The movement mainly focused on demanding stricter gun laws in the US. India meanwhile has one of the strictest gun-control laws in the world.
