In a bid to tackle Delhi’s rising air pollution, the capital city could see the launch of Hydrogen-Compressed Natural Gas (H-CNG) which is supposed to be a cleaner version of CNG. It would be worth noting that CNG had been introduced as a palliative to the extreme pollution caused by petrol and diesel vehicles in the National Capital Region (NCR).

H-CNG is essentially a green fuel consisting of a mixture of Hydrogen and CNG. It has been reported that a mix consisting of 18 per cent Hydrogen gas can reduce the quantities of harmful pollutants like carbon monoxide (CO) and other harmful emissions.

The idea to introduce H-CNG comes on the heels of the apex court directing the government authorities and Indian Oil Corporation to explore the possibility of using this fuel mixture as a pollution mitigating alternative. Along with a reduction in the levels of harmful pollutants, it is expected that the introduction of this green fuel would lead to a drop in fuel prices, thus benefiting consumers reeling from high retail fuel prices.
