Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy, has said that his government will provide 300 acres to build a new airport in Mysuru, according to a tweet by Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu.
Since 2010, a small airport has been functional on the outskirts of Mysuru at Mandakalli. A full-fledged airport will be developed after the acquisition of the land that is required for the project. This comes as part of the plan to develop Mysuru into a round-the-year tourism destination.
There, however, seems to be a little confusion over the matter as Prabhu claims that a new airport will be built, while the state government says the existing airport will be further developed.
The land is expected to be given to Airports Authority of India (AAI) within the next three months. Special Land Acquisition Officers are being put on the task, both from the state and Centre to speed up the process, Star of Mysore reported.
Prabhu was in the state to witness the Dasara celebrations at Mysuru. The acquisition of land is being done through the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), BJP MP for Mysuru, Pratap Simha, said.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
