Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has received a 'significant' contract for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, which is the country’s first high speed rail corridor project, reports Financial Express.

The infrastructure firm has not provided the value of the contract. However, the deal falls under the ‘significant’ category, which generally costs between Rs 1000-2500 crore according to the classification of contracts.

L&T had partnered with Japan’s IHI Infrastructure System (IIS) for the contract under which they will procure, fabricate, assemble, paint and transport 28 steel bridges for the project.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) is implementing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project based on Japan’s E5 Shinkansen technology.

The 508-km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is one of the leading infrastructure projects envisioned by the Narendra Modi-led Central government.

The high speed rail corridor is slated to be completed by around 2024.
