Lucknow airport will be upgrading its facilities to accommodate three times its current capacity by 2021, Financial Express has reported. The airport capacity will increase from current 4.4 million passengers per annum (MPPA) to 14.4 million passengers per annum.
“Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) has been selected as the project executor, Egis is the project management consultant. The project is scheduled for completion by 2021 end. With a capacity to handle 4,000 extra passengers during peak hours, the new airport is being designed to cater to passenger traffic up to 2031,” the airport’s director AK Sharma told Financial Express.
The upgrade includes an integrated terminal area of 84,000 sq metre and a retail area stretching over 15,000 sq m. A multilevel additional parking for 1,500 vehicles will also be constructed as part of the upgrade. The airport currently operates 75 flights every day. After the upgrade, it will be able to operate 200 flights per day.
