Madhya Pradesh: India’s Largest 100 MW Floating Solar Power Plant To Come Up In Khandwa

Madhya Pradesh is all set to establish India’s biggest floating solar power plant of 100 megawatt (MW) at Indira Sagar Reservoir in Khandwa, reports The Hitavada.
According to the report, a similar project is also proposed to be developed at Rani Avanti Bai Sagar, Bargi Dam, in Jabalpur. The state already has set a benchmark by establishing biggest ground-mounted 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Plant.
“Proposal to establish 100 MW floating solar power project at Indira Sagar Reservoir has been given green signal from Solar Electricity Corporation of India (SECI) and tender process has been started to start the project. Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPCL) will jointly develop the project,” Sanjay Kumar Shukla, managing director of MPPMCL was quoted in the report as saying.
As per the report, Shukla said that setting up a maiden floating solar power project at Indira Sagar Reservoir will be followed by more projects of the same nature at other big reservoirs like Bargi Dam
The floating solar plant is reportedly more efficient than ground-mounted installations due to the moderating effect of water bodies on panel temperature.
The project would help the State power sector to explore new avenues of renewable energy generation. It will reportedly be the largest floating solar power plant in the country superseding existing biggest plant of 500 Kilowatt peak (KWp) in Kerala.
