The Indore police crime branch on Thursday (15 April) arrested one Vinay Trivedi for allegedly selling fake Remdesivir injections, reported Asian News International.

Police recovered 400 vials in 25 boxes from the car of the accused. When questioned, the accused claimed that he had procured the injections from a company in Himachal Pradesh but failed to produce any documents, deputy inspector general (DIG) Manish Kapooria told reporters.

We will get these injections tested in a laboratory, but a drug inspector, prima facie, doubted their authenticity, he said.

A case under various sections of the Indian penal code including fraud has been registered against Trivedi.

The vials were to be sold for Rs 20 Lakh in the black market.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said the state government had ordered a supply of 50,000 more injections.

"Yesterday, 10,000 injections had arrived which are being distributed. Private hospitals have been asked to procure Remdesivir injections from their own sources. We have ordered the supply of 50,000 more injections," Chouhan said.
