Maharashtra today (3 September) became the first state to announce its intention to buy land in both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh following the abrogation of Article 370.

As per journalist Poulomi Saha, this land will be bought by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) with the intention of setting up resorts in the tourism hotspots of Leh and Palgham. A total of Rs 1 crore each has been earmarked for these projects.

A team of MTDC officials is expected to visit the locations in the next 15 days to survey possible locations for the resorts. The MTDC reportedly does not want to miss out on the opportunity to invest in the new union territories.

As per a News18 report, the Fadnavis government has claimed that the Palgham resort will aid Hindu pilgrims embarking on the Amarnath Yatra. The one in Ladakh would be setup as a mountaineering resort, keeping in mind people’s interests. The government is also open to buying land near the Srinagar airport.
