Maharashtra Government Commences Work On Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial In Mumbai

The Government of Maharashtra has commenced work on the 212-metre-tall Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial in the Arabian Sea. Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has been contracted with the task of constructing the memorial from Wednesday (24 October). The project is expected to be completed within the next three years.
A 15-acre area has been demarcated in the sea for the memorial to be built and the Public Works Department (PWD) had invited tenders for the memorial’s construction. After emerging as bidder with the lowest cost, L&T has been awarded the contract. Reliance was among the bidders too, Times Now reported.
There is a lift that will be constructed for the visitors’ benefit, and it will take them to a height of 180 metres inside the memorial. Land near Marine Drive has been chosen for the project, which happens to be a crowded tourist area. Off the coast of Mumbai, the memorial will be developed on a three-acre rocky terrain, with gardens, museum and galleries among other facilities.
