The Maharashtra Police has arrested two people in connection with the attack on Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and his wife in the early hours of Thursday (23 April), reports ANI.

“2 people arrested in connection with the attack on Arnab Goswami and his wife,” ANI quoted DCP Zone 3, Mumbai as saying.

The DCP further added that a FIR has been registered against the attackers by NM Joshi Marg Police station under sec 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC.

Goswami and his wife were reportedly attacked by two bike-borne goons while they were returning home from studio.

As per the reports, the attackers threw objects at Arnab’s car and were later caught by his security.

A Republic report claimed that the attackers were sent by Indian National Congress, who have reportedly confessed about the same.

It should be noted that the Congress party and its supporters on Wednesday (22 April) launched an extensive social media campaign demanding the arrest of senior journalist Arnab Goswami over his comments criticising party president Sonia Gandhi over her silence on the brutal lynching and murder of Sadhus in Palghar.

The campaign against Arnab Goswami was supported by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who demanded that he be sacked from Republic TV - a channel which he himself owns.

The Congress leaders and supporters are reportedly miffed over a clip of him criticising Sonia Gandhi for her alleged silence on the brutal lynching and murder of Sadhus in Palghar, Maharashtra.
