Maharashtra coronavirus update
Worst-hit Indian state with the novel coronavirus pandemic Maharashtra has reported 117 new cases so far on Wednesday (8 April) along with eight people losing their lives, State Health Department said.
The newly added cases have taken the tally of total confirmed cases to 1,135 in the state, while death toll mounted upto 72, news agency ANI tweeted.
State capital Mumbai has been the worst affected area in the country with over 700 cases in the city.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Dr Randeep Guleria, as reported earlier, suggested that some parts of the country such as Mumbai had entered the community transmission stage of the outbreak.
In a conversation with Hindi news channel Aaj Tak, Dr Guleria, however, maintained majority of the country as a whole was still in stage 2 or local transmission and only select pockets such as Mumbai had entered localised community transmission.
While talking about the localised community spread in the specific areas he also assured there was nothing to be tensed about if it could be stopped in the beginning itself. He added, it was important to be extra vigilant now.
