Pushing back against China's expansionary adventurism in the South China Sea, Malaysia has in a rare development publicly reacted to the moves and issued a strong reaction, reports Economic Times.

Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that it would summon the Chinese Ambassador over the operations of the People's Liberation Army (PLA)'s Air Force aircraft over a Malaysian maritime zone.

It should be noted that the Royal Malaysian Air Force has called the presence of Chinese military aircraft over its maritime zone a "serious threat to national security".

Malaysia is also said to have taken note of a Chinese coast guard ship about 156 kilometres from its shore. This gains significance as Malaysia is known to conduct drilling for natural gas in those waters.

There have allegedly been more than 100 Chinese maritime intrusions into Malaysian waters. The most recent of such intrusions were reported near Beting Patinggi Ali which lies in Malaysia's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Beting Patinggi Ali is also known as the Luciano Shoals.
