Mallya's Extradition Case In UK Is Over, Some 'Secret' Proceedings Going On Which It's Not A Party To: Govt To SC

In a major development, the Government has informed a special bench of the Supreme Court that economic offender Vijay Mallya's extradition case in the United Kingdom (UK) is over in India's favour, but some 'secret' proceedings are on which it is not aware of, and is not a party to, reports Hindu Businessline.
Representing the government, advocate Rajat Nair informed the bench comprising justices U U Lalit and Ashok Bhushan that the extradition was ordered by the highest court of the UK, but it is not happening. He also added that the Mallya's side has not served the government with anything with respect to the said 'secret' proceedings.
Following this, Justice Lalit asked Mallya's legal counsel to explain the nature of the confidential proceedings. However, Mallya's representation declined to share any information and said that he would first have to take instructions on the issue. To this Justice Lalit responded, "We want to know what is going on? What is pending there now?"
The bench has now given Mallya's side to clarify the nature of the said 'secret' proceedings by 2 November. The bench has asked when the proceedings will end, and by when will Mallya appear before the court to accept his sentence for contempt.
