Manish Sisodiya Claims Delhi Now Has Surplus Medical Oxygen, Asks Centre To Divert It To Other States

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodiya has claimed that Delhi now has an oxygen surplus.

Sisodiya has claimed that it has been found post assessment that Delhi's current daily liquid medical oxygen demand has come down to 582 metric tonne (MT).

"Today, after assessment of the Covid-19 situation, Delhi's oxygen need is 582 MT per day. As a responsible government, we will give the surplus oxygen to the States who need it", he has been quoted as saying.

As per reports, Sisodiya has said that Delhi's oxygen demand per day has come down from 700 MT to 582 MT and hospital beds are also freeing up.

"We have written a letter to the central government and have said our work will be done with 582 metric tonnes of oxygen per day and they can give surplus oxygen from Delhi's quota to other states", Sisodiya adds.

The Supreme Court had recently ordered the centre to supply 700 MT oxygen to Delhi until further orders. The apex court had also set up a panel to audit the supply, distribution and utilisation of oxygen in Delhi.

During a court hearing Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had argued that the estimate of 700 MT was way beyond requirement and that the actual number would be between 500 and 600 MT. He had thus demanded an audit to check possible pilferage and snags.
