Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari while participating in the Lok Sabha debate on Article 370 referred to the erotic novel “50 Shades of Grey” when questioned over his party’s stance on Article 370.

While responding to Amit Shah’s speech and the stance of his party over Article 370, Tewari stated that, “There’s an English book, not everything is black and white, there are 50 Shades of Grey in between”.

Tewari later elaborated on his statement by saying that Article 370 cannot be scrapped without the approval of the J&K constituent assembly and claimed that this move goes against the constitution.

This assertion Tewari may not hold a lot of water because, as ruled by Supreme Court Mohd. Maqbool Damnoo Vs State of Jammu and Kashmir, the Governor of J&K’s consent was held at par with that of the constituent assembly.

Besides Tewari, Congress’ leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also created a flutter by questioning as to how Kashmir can be India’s internal matter and hinted at considering it as a bilateral issue, which drew sharp reactions from other members of the house.
