Former prime minister and veteran leader of the Congress party, Manmohan Singh is set to return to Rajya Sabha after his tenure ended in June 2019, reports The Hindu.

Singh is expected to file the nomination to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Rajasthan where his party has a government of its own in power. Earlier, he was a member from Assam in the Rajya Sabha.

Singh had been a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha from the state of Assam for five consecutive terms from 1991 to 2019. This is the first time he will be contesting for a seat to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

Singh will be filing his nomination on 13 August, the last date for which is 14 August. The elections would then be held on 26 August and the results will be declared the very same day.

This comes after the seat represented by BJP state president Madan Lal Saini fell vacant after latter’s demise on 24 June, setting the stage for by-elections.
