A serious question mark on the credibility of several organisations and persons has emerged after a Pakistani senator gave names of several Indians claiming they were Pakistan-sympathisers and could be roped in over the Kashmir issue.
In a televised discussion on media channel, the Pakistani politician and geo-strategist Mushahid Hussain said that the role of Pakistan in the struggle of Kashmiri Muslims was key, and the country will have to take the issue with seriousness in a sustained manner.
Hussain said that India was a large country and there were many in India who are Pak-sympathisers. He took the names Arundhati Roy, Mamata Banerjee, Congress party, Communist party, Left parties to give examples.
A video-clip of the interview went viral on the social media causing furore. Coming soon after a former Pakistani High Commissioner to India claimed to have influenced journalist Shobhaa De to write an article supporting self-determination in Kashmir, the clip raised question on the integrity and credibility of several high-profile personalities in the country.
Bharatiya Janata Party vice president and spokesperson Baijayant Jay Panda took to Twitter asking the named persons and parties to “respond and hopefully refute” the “shocking claim" made by the Pakistani senator. Panda added that the claim was made not by any obscure/anonymous site but a national senator of Pakistan, and therefore should be taken seriously.
