Maruti Suzuki To Discontinue Diesel Models From 1 April 2020; To Push For Petrol And CNG Options

Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has decided to discontinue the production of all the diesel cars from 1 April 2020, reports Press Trust of India (PTI).
Chairman R C Bhargava, in a post-results press conference said, “From April 1, 2020 we will not be selling diesel cars”.
Maruti Suzuki, the biggest car maker in India, generates around 23 per cent of their annual sales from diesel cars. The company is planning to push for buyers to shift from diesel to petrol or CNG cars by. The company would also be adding CNG variants in new car models.
The company, earlier this week had launched the popular Baleno and Alto hatchbacks with engines conforming to the Bharat State 6 Emission Norms. The norms are all set to come into force from 2020. In the coming months, the company is also expected to launch Dzire and Swift models with the same BS 6 engines.
