Maruti Suzuki To Move Out Of Gurugram City, May Consider Gujarat

Maruti Suzuki chairman R C Bhargava has told Business Standard that the relocation of the company’s plant from Gurugram is unavoidable. Every year, the manufacturing hub, which is the company’s first, can accommodate about 7 lakh cars. It is over 35-years-old.
The process of relocation will be executed in a phase-by-phase manner. Bhargava says, “In the process of shifting, you cannot stop the production from this plant for six-twelve months”. Over 30 per cent of the company’s total production capacity is handled by the unit now, hence, it is going to be a hectic process.
Apart from the one in Gurugram, the company has another manufacturing unit in Manesar, Haryana, with a capacity of over 8 lakh units.
When started about four decades ago, the plant in Gurugram was considered to be built in the then suburbs, in an isolated area. The city has grown so much bigger with time that the unit now lies in the middle of it. This has gotten residents and authorities concerned and hence initiate action against the manufacturer.
The company has been reported to be interested in the land at Industrial Model Township (IMT) Sohna, about 25 kilometres from Gurugram. Again, complications of considering schools, hospitals and residential areas for its employees are also a concern.
Suzuki has plans to sell more than 50 lakh vehicles in India by 2030. This shall triple the current sales volume.
Gujarat is another location in mind the company has.
