Masood Azhar Suffering From Kidney Failure, Undergoes Regular Dialysis At Rawalpindi Hospital: Reports

As per PTI sources, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) supremo Maulana Masood Azhar is believed to be suffering from renal failure and receiving regular dialysis treatment at an army medical facility in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. This information comes on the heels of Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s remarks yesterday (Friday, 1 March) stating that Azhar was so unwell he couldn’t leave his house, reports The Indian Express.
He made the comments in an interview with CNN journalist Christine Amanpour. “Azhar is in Pakistan. According to my information, he is very unwell. He is unwell to the extent that he can’t leave his house, because he’s really unwell,” he had said.
The JeM leader was previously known to be close to Osama bin Laden and had been a propagator of jihad in places as far away as Africa and the United Kingdom. He had been captured by Indian forces once but was released in an exchange following the hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight in 1999, which was flown to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
JeM had been instrumental in helping jihadists and their families fleeing from Afghanistan after 9/11 find refuge in Pakistani safe havens.
“JeM is an organisation that does not just impact India, but feeds on pan-Islamism and has been a major threat to global peace and security,” India’s draft proposal at the UNSC stated.
The terror group has been responsible for a host of large-scale attacks on Indian territory, going back to the 2001 Parliament attack, and the more recent attacks in Uri and Pulwama, which resulted in the deaths of 17 and 40 soldiers respectively.
