‘Matter Will Be Heard In Due Course’: SC Denies Urgent Hearing To Petition Challenging Article 370’s Abolition

In response to a petition challenging the presidential order which has revoked Jammu & Kashmir’s (J&K’s) special status by doing away with Article 370, the Supreme Court has said that it cannot grant an urgent for the same, reports PTI.
The bench headed by Justice N V Ramana told the petitioner that the matter will be heard in due course. While contending that the petition should be given an urgent hearing, the petitioner, Advocate M L Sharma said that Pakistan was planning to the take the matter before the United Nations.
"If they go to the United Nations, can the UN stay the constitutional amendment of the union of India," said the bench in response.
Sharma’s main line of argumentation is that the Centre has abrogated article 370 without taking the consent of the Jammu & Kashmir assembly.
The presidential order, along with a bill to bifurcate the state of J&K into two union territories, have however, been cleared in both houses of Parliament with two-third majorities.
