The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday (22 July) refuted the claim made by United States President Donald Trump in his statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked him to help with “disputed Kashmir” region, and rejected his offer to mediate on the issue.
The US President had reportedly claimed that PM Modi had asked him to help with the “disputed” Kashmir region and that he would “love to be a mediator” on the issue between India and Pakistan.
In a statement, the MEA said that it has seen Trump’s remarks to the media and denied PM Modi making such request to the US President.
“We have seen US President's remarks to the press that he is ready to mediate, if requested by India & Pakistan, on Kashmir issue. No such request has been made by PM Narendra Modi to US President,” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
The MEA also rejected Trump’s offer to mediate and said that all the issues between India and Pakistan will only be discussed bilaterally.
“It has been India's consistent position that all outstanding issues with Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally. Any engagement with Pakistan would require an end to cross border terrorism,” the MEA spokesperson said.
