In a joint briefing with the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police, the Army today (Tuesday, 19 February 2019) announced that the leadership of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in the Kashmir Valley had been eliminated in less than 100 hours following the terror outfit’s attack on a CRPF convoy in which more than 40 soldiers were martyred, reports ANI.
The Corps Commander of the Army’s 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Kanwaljeet Singh Dhillon, made the statement and also warned that anyone picking up arms would also be neutralised if they did not surrender.
“The convoy attack was carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammad which is being controlled from Pakistan with active support of ISI and the Pakistan Army. Top JeM commanders, most of them Pakistanis, were in-charge of controlling, coordinating, fabricating and execution of this operation,” Dhillon stated.
Commenting on the further course of action following the Pulwama convoy attack and an encounter following that in which four army men including a Major were killed, the General said, "The investigation (into the CRPF vehicle attack) is at a very advanced stage. We cannot share probe details right now. We have leads on the type of explosives used but I cannot share.”
He also specifically appealed to Kashmiri mothers to keep their sons away from militancy, asking those whose sons had picked up arms to persuade them to surrender and come back to mainstream society.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
