A protest against crimes against children.

Close on the heels of a case in Jammu’s Kathua district where a minor girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped and killed in a temple, another horrific case has come to light in Western Uttar Pradesh where a minor girl missing for two days has been found in a madrassa, an Islamic education centre.

Police have arrested a maulana and a madrassa student in connection with the case.

It has emerged that the girl used to be a neighbour of the maulana until 19 April when the family shifted from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh (UP) to adjoining New Delhi's Mayur Vihar area. The girl's family hails from UP's Raebareli district and had been living in Ghaziabad's Sahibabad area for the last five years.

As per a report by Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, the girl went missing from the Mayur Vihar house two days after shifting. On 21 April, both the husband and wife went for work leaving their 10-year-old daughter at home. When they returned, they did not find the child at home and got a police case registered for kidnapping.

The police carried out a raid and recovered the child from the first floor of the madrassa. The Jagran report said that the maulana's neighbours and relatives tried to prevent police from taking action.

More details are awaited. Further investigation in the case is on.
