Rajasthan coronavirus update

Four people have been arrested in Kotra area of Rajasthan’s Udaipur district after a mob allegedly pelted stones at police personnel trying to stop them from holding a gathering to offer namaaz (Muslim prayers) amid the nationwide lockdown, Dainik Jagran reported.

The four people, on court’s orders, have been sent to judicial custody.

According to the Jagran report, the police station in Kotra tehsil had on Friday issued orders prohibiting any religious gatherings for prayers. The order attracted anger from the Muslim community as heavy force was deployed in the area to make sure no gathering took place.

Following this, several people from the community planned to offer group prayers and tried to gather people at the main mosque of the town, the report says.

However, the cops attempted to stop the gathering, which resulted into stone pelting from the other side. The mob was later dispersed by the use of force by the police.

Four individuals -- Sajjad, Wasim, Mustkeem, and Jabi -- have been reportedly booked for causing obstruction in official matters of state and stone pelting. The police is also looking for others involved in plotting of the gathering and violence.

Rajasthan has reported around 200 cases of COVID-19 including one fatality, as per the website India COVID-19 Tracker.
