Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya informed that 25 new manufacturing sites for Remdesivir's production have been approved since 12 April.

He said, “Production capacity is now ramped up to more than 90 lakhs vials per month, earlier it was 40 lakhs vials per month. Very soon, three lakh vial per day will be produced. Monitoring is being done on a daily basis. We would not leave any stone unturned to supply Remdesivir.”

The Central government on Wednesday (21 April) made interim allocation of the key anti-viral drug for 19 states/Union Territories for the period up to 30 April.

Allocations have been made for Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand.

States not covered by the above-mentioned allocation will be considered for allocation when their supply orders are placed with the manufacturers.

Manufacturers have been directed to manufacture and dispatch the supplies as per the agreed state allocation and mapping. They may be asked to balance supplies to the government and distribution channels.

On the other hand, Karnataka would soon import 2 lakh vials of anti-viral drug Remdesivir to treat Covid patients, said Health Minister K Sudhakar on Friday (23 April).

The state government has requisitioned city-based drug maker Biocon Ltd to supply 10,000 vials of Remdesivir in 10 days and 50,000-60,000 vials in a month.
