Bhopal jailbreak ends badly for terrorists. 8 SIMI terrorists who escaped Bhopal jail in the morning by killing a guard were later gunned down by the Madhya Pradesh police in an encounter. The prisoners were facing trial for terror-related activities, sedition and robbery.

Positive signs of growth. Growth in India's core sector picked up in September. Eight core industries grew at five per cent compared to 3.2 per cent growth in August. Steel production grew the fastest at 16.3 per cent.

Maharashtra leads in agri reforms. NITI Aayog released its latest rankings of States based on their performance in reforming agriculture marketing, land leasing and forestry on private land. Maharashtra has topped with a score of 81.7, followed by Gujarat (71.5), Rajasthan (70), Madhya Pradesh (69.5) and Haryana (63.3).

PM called for Judicial reforms. On the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Delhi High Court, PM Modi proposed the introduction of an All India Judicial Service where Dalits and exploited sections get a chance to join the system. The CJI who shared the dais with Modi, called on the judiciary to “introspect".

New Judicial appointments cleared. The Centre on Monday clearednames of 10 judges (selected by the Supreme Court) for the high courts of Gauhati and Delhi and sent the names to President Pranab Mukherjee for his assent. SC had rebuked the Modi government on Friday for not clearing the names sent to it by the SC collegium. Judges appoint themselves in India and then send names to the government for clearance.

Leaked emails fallout continue. CNN parted ways with the Democratic strategist and Hillary Clinton supporter Donna Brazile after hacked Democratic emails released by WikiLeaks showed she shared debate questions from the CNN-sponsored events with the Clinton campaign.

Rama, the tenth to ascend throne. Thailand is making preparationsfor Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to ascend the throne on 1 December. His father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away on 13 October at the age of 88, after ruling the Southeast Asian country for over 70 years. Though, the ascension is likely to be held in December, his formal coronation cannot take place until after the king's cremation in a year's time.
