Tata Sons Replaces Cyrus Mistry

In a dramatic development, Tata Sons on Monday replaced Cyrus P Mistry as its chairman and named Ratan Tata as the interim chairman of the company. The decision was taken at the company's board meeting and a committee has been formed to select the next chairman within four months.

Mistry, 48, an Irish-Indian citizen, had taken over as chairman of Tata Sons four years ago in December 2012. He was replaced keeping in mind the "long-term interest" of the company, according to a Tata Sons spokesperson.

Modi Bats For Women's Rights

Joining the debate on triple talaq, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the government and society should ensure justice to Muslim women and not let their lives be destroyed by triple talaq. At the same time, he also condemned the prevalence of female foeticide in Hindu society.

He urged people to not make triple talaq a Hindu-Muslim issue and came down heavily on political parties who he said were politicising the issue.

Rafale Equipment To Be Manufactured In Goa

Safran group, a French supplier which produces small components for the Rafale fighter jet manufacturers, has been asked to set up a facility in Goa to meet the company's import requirement, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar informed.

Parrikar, who was in Sattari for the inauguration of a helicopter maintenance and repair centre, also said that Goa government was willing to provide land to facilitate the project.

Idea's Net Profit Slumps 88 Per Cent

Aditya Birla Group controlled Idea Cellular, India's third-largest telecom operator by revenue, reported an 88 per cent slump in second-quarter profit as competition from a new wireless carrier and higher costs weighed.


E-Ballot System For Service Voters

The service personnel serving in remote areas will now be able to vote through an e-ballot, though they will still be required to return the ballot paper through manual post. After marking his vote in the blank postal ballot, the same would have to be returned to the Returning Officer concerned by post as in the present system of postal ballot.

On a pilot basis, the e-postal ballot facility is being extended to some select categories only.
