Khulafa-e-Rashideen mosque in Haryana’s Palwal district has been under the scanner after an investigation by National Investigation Agency (NIA) discovered that the funding for its construction has allegedly come from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan. Three arrests have been made so far in this case after a thorough search of the venue on 3 October. Those arrested include the Imam Mohammed Salman.

All seized documents are being checked for any possible evidence that can establish a strong case for the NIA. The funding has allegedly come from an NGO set up by LeT chief Hafiz Saeed’s Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF). Apart from the Imam, two others Mohammed Salim and Sajjad Abdul Wani have been arrested.

The Indian Express quoted an officer of NIA as saying, “Salman, who came in touch with LeT associated men when he was in Dubai, had been receiving funds from FIF. The organisation, we have learnt, gave him Rs 70 lakh to build a mosque in Uttawar. It even gave him money for the marriage of his daughters. We are now probing from where the mosque has been receiving its donations and how this money is being used.”

Most of the funding has come through hawala routes.
