Body of a young B.Tech student, Nishank Rathore, was recovered from the Bhopal-Narmadapuram railway track, on Sunday, 24 July. On the same day, a screenshot of the victim's own Instagram account was received by the family and friends of the victim.
This contained the image of Rathore and over them was the text: "Gustakh-e-nabi ki ik sazaa, sar tan se juda" (Only one punishment for blasphemy against the Prophet, head severed from the body).
This report says that the police found Rathore's scooty and mobile phone near his body.
Madhya Pradesh police have informed that Rathore was a fifth-semester B.Tech student at the Oriental College in Bhopal.
His body has been sent for post-mortem and the police are awaiting the report.
The report linked above also quotes Nishank's father as saying that his son was a free spirit, he could never have committed suicide and that he suspects that his son was murdered.
The report also says that Nishank's family was looking out for him since 3 pm on Sunday, as by that time they had seen suspicious posts on Nishank's Instagram and Facebook accounts. These posts contained Nishank's image and the text: "Gustakh-e-nabi ki ik sazaa, sar tan se juda".
Later, around 6 pm, says the report, Nishank's father received a WhatsApp message which read (translated): Mr Rathore, your son was very brave. Only one punishment for blasphemy against the Prophet, head severed from the body.
Following this, the family rushed from Seoni Malwa to Bhopal and registered a missing person's complaint with the police.
