Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day International Virat Gurukul Sammelan held in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister (CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the state government will start registering gurukuls, ANI has reported.

In its thrust towards traditional education, the MP government will promote the gurukal system in each district in the state and also begin treating them equivalent to mainstream schools.

"The state will register gurukuls and treat them equivalent to mainstream schools. Every district will promote the gurukul system and the government will help trusts to open new gurukuls," Chouhan said while addressing the conference yesterday (28 April).

The event was also attended by Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar and RSS Sar Sanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat. Almost 900 gurukuls from India and Nepal are participating in the event with the aim of mainstreaming gurukuls.

HRD Minister Javadekar had earlier stated that the HRD ministry is working towards preparing a new draft of the education policy that he hopes will be ready in three months.

Javadekar said that the union government is looking forward to reviving the Vedic education system as only Vedic learning can turn the current generation of students into worthy patriots for the nation.
