Prime Minister Narendra Modi while countering the rumours spread by opposition during his Lok Sabha speech, said that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement of crops has increased following the passage of the new farm laws.

"Nether has any Mandi shut down nor has MSP been curtailed following the passage of the farm laws", said Prime Minister Modi.

It has been reported that the paddy procurement by government agencies has increased 17.6 per cent year on year and the sharpest increase in procurement has been reported in Punjab, where it is up by 33.2 per cent. Punjab's farmers are the biggest opponents of the new farm laws.

This resulted in an uproar from the opposition which Prime Minister Modi countered by calling it a well thought out strategy to prevent the truth from coming out.

Prime Minister Modi added that the new farm laws merely provide an alternative to the farmers and are not a compulsion. There should be no grounds for protests as the laws merely provide an option to the farmers.

He also criticised the disruption tactics employed by Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
