Ministry of Urban Housing and Development (MUHD) has claimed that it has no role to play in the ongoing dispute between Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), The HinduBusinessLine has reported. IIT-Delhi and DMRC have been engaged in a tussle over the naming of a metro station, near IIT, after a coaching institute.
IIT Delhi had recently written to MUHD, Prime Minister’s office and the DMRC chairperson for their intervention in the controversy over the naming of a metro station after FIITJEE (a private coaching institute) . The controversy has been going on for several months now.
According to the report, an official said the ministry had no role to play and that it is a non-fare issue. He said that the matter needs to be resolved between IIT Delhi and DMRC.
An IIT-Delhi faculty member told the paper that they approached Delhi High court over the issue with the argument that no permission was sought from IIT to sell its name to another party. High Court opined that legal process had been adopted while naming the station. The court, however, suggested the IIT to file a separate civil suit in the case. The coaching institute has been requested by IIT Delhi to pick Hauz Khas metro station to be named as ‘FIITJEE’ .
