Multiple Indian Air Force jets are said to have crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Balakot to target Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camps via air strikes, reports have claimed.

Striking the region lying in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, meant that the jets had to enter deep into enemy controlled territory to carry out the air strikes.

As per unnamed government sources, an attempt was made to target JeM camps but there has been no official damage assessment yet. The current situation along the LoC continues to remain tense.

An ANI report though has claimed that at about 3.30 am in the morning twelve Mirage 2000 aircraft, struck a major terrorist camp across LoC, which led to its total destruction. It added that 1000 kg bombs were dropped at the target site.

Defence analyst Nitin Gokhale meanwhile has speculated that India appears to have resorted to a two pronged air and ground attack. While there has been no official word yet, India is expected to carry out a briefing.

Incidentally, the Pakistani establishment has not negated speculations about the air strikes. Pakistani Armed Forces spokesperson Asif Ghafoor claimed that Indian jets entered the Muzafarabad sector, where they were apparently intercepted by Pakistani jets.
