Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Indian Railways To Procure 24 Train Sets From Japan; Six Trains To Be Assembled In India

Indian Railways is planning to procure 24 bullet train sets from Japan for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project, Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal had said on Sunday (28 June), Metro Rail News reports.
“The estimated total cost of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project, including the cost of rolling stock, is Rs 1,08,000 crore, out of which 81 per cent price will be funded through the loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),” the minister said while replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
The JICA and National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had signed an MoU, according to which six of the 24 trains sets have to be assembled in India to promote ‘Make in India’. JICA is yet to decide a place for assembling of the trains.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project is being implemented by the NHSRCL. Currently, they are in progress of land acquisition, with around 40 per cent of land acquisition completed in the two states, and is set to acquire the remaining land by December this year. The project is set to be completed by 2023.
