Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Land Acquisition In Maharashta Stands At Paltry 23 Per Cent

Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav has stated that the time frame for the completion of the bullet train project can be determined in the upcoming three-six months, Press Trust of India has reported.
The major reason behind this is that only 23 per cent of land has been acquired in Maharashtra so far for the initiative in comparison to the 82 per cent of land that has been obtained in Gujarat. Apparently, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a postponement in the whole process, though Yadav believed that they are progressing well as of now.
“We are hoping that within the next three to six months, we will be able to get to that point. Our designs are ready and we are set to go. It is true that the tenders and land acquisition were delayed a bit due to the coronavirus pandemic, but I can say that the project is progressing well,” the Chairman of the Board explained to the PTI.
Yadav mentioned that work can commence only after a certain amount of land has been procured in a linear project like for the bullet train. He asserted that the bidding procedure can initiate in the upcoming few months.
The top officer clarified, “As the COVID19 situation improves, we will be able to start the bidding process and within the next three to six months, we will be able to get the status of land acquired and then we will be able to provide a real time frame for the completion of the project.”
