Mumbai: KEM Doctors At Forefront Of Covid-19 Battle Complain Of Acute Staff Shortage, Highlight Critical Issues

The resident doctors at the renowned KEM Hospital in Mumbai - which is at the forefront of the city’s battle against Covid-19 have complained about acute staff shortage and other critical issues in an open letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The letter posted in form of a twitter thread claims that the Covid-19 wards are suffering from an acute shortage of nurses and class-4 workers. As a result doctors are having to do all the work which is affecting their morale.
A video shows only resident doctors attending to 35 critical Covid-19 patients who were left with no means to perform basic activities like getting food, going to washrooms etc.
The doctor making this video claimed that he and his colleagues brought this to the attention of the authorities but to no avail.
A doctor in the video said that all the medical duties which are generally distributed among healthcare workers and nurses are being performed by overworked doctors. He doctor claimed that many healthcare workers are also refusing to attend to Covid-19 patients.
